Preposition + koji
Relative Pronouns with Prepositions
After a preposition, koji keeps the antecedent’s gender and number but takes the case required inside the relative clause.
How It Works
First identify the noun being described. Then reconstruct the relationship inside the relative clause: razgovaram s prijateljicom → prijateljica s kojom razgovaram. Feminine singular comes from prijateljica; instrumental comes from s in this relationship.
Keep the preposition together with the relative pronoun: grad u kojem živimo, ljudi o kojima govorimo. Croatian does not normally leave this preposition at the end of the relative clause as English sometimes does.
Use the full pronoun form, not an object clitic. The case of the noun in the main clause is a separate decision: Poznajem prijateljicu s kojom putuješ. The direct object prijateljicu does not force accusative on kojom.
