Feminine Accusative -u
Feminine Objects in -u
Many feminine nouns ending in -a take accusative singular -u. Knjiga becomes knjigu and kuća becomes kuću.
How It Works
Start with Čitam knjigu. The dictionary form knjiga ends in -a, while the object form ends in -u. The same pattern gives voda/vodu and torba/torbu.
A modifier changes with the noun: Čitam novu knjigu. It is not enough to change only the noun and leave nova in its nominative form.
The -a to -u pattern belongs to a noun declension, not to all feminine nouns. Consonant-final feminine noć has another pattern. Masculine personal nouns such as kolega also follow -a noun endings while keeping masculine agreement.
