Concessive and Consequential Connectors
Concessive connectors oppose an expectation; consequential connectors introduce a result or inference.
How It Works
Tanmateix and no obstant això introduce something that remains true despite the preceding information. Per tant and en conseqüència introduce a conclusion or result. Choose the relation before selecting a connector; they are not interchangeable decorations.
These connectors can connect complete sentences. A full stop or semicolon before them and a comma after an initial connector often make the structure easy to read. A conjunction such as però has a different syntactic role and does not always require the same punctuation.
An inference is not necessarily an event caused in time: the lights being on can support the conclusion that somebody is home. Make the evidence and conclusion explicit enough for the reader to follow.
