el/la/els/les més + Adjective
The Most and the Least
Use an agreeing article plus més or menys to identify an extreme within a group.
How It Works
La més alta identifies the tallest feminine member, while els menys cars identifies the least expensive masculine plural members. Més and menys do not change, but the article and adjective agree with the noun, whether it is spoken or understood.
With a noun, a common order is la casa més alta del carrer. The group of comparison can follow de: el més ràpid de tots. When the noun is omitted, the article still marks the understood gender and number.
This differs from a simple comparison between two items: més alt que jo uses que. A superlative selects a member within a set. Special forms such as el millor and la pitjor normally stand without més; do not build el més millor as the ordinary pattern.
