Present of Fer

Level 1

The present of fer is faig, fas, fa, fem, feu and fan.

How It Works

Fer can mean do or make, but it also appears in everyday combinations that English expresses differently: fer esport, fer una pregunta, fer fred. Learn the whole phrase together with the verb.

With an ordinary subject, choose the matching person: jo faig, nosaltres fem, ells fan. Weather expressions such as fa fred are impersonal and use singular fa. Do not make the verb plural merely because an adjective or noun after it suggests a quantity.

The present can describe an activity now or a habit. A completed past activity needs another tense, such as vaig fer. Keep fa, meaning does/makes, distinct from forms of other common verbs such as va and té.

Examples (3)

  1. Faig una pregunta.

    I ask a question.

  2. Fem esport cada dia.

    We exercise every day.

  3. Avui fa fred.

    It is cold today.
