Present Forms of Ser
Ser has the present forms soc, ets, és, som, sou and són.
How It Works
Use ser to identify, classify or locate: soc estudiant, és una biblioteca, som a casa. Learn these irregular forms as a set rather than attaching regular endings to the infinitive. The accepted infinitive ésser is another form of the same verb.
Current spelling writes soc without an accent. És and són keep distinguishing accents. In a question, the forms do not change: ets metge? simply adds question intonation. An adjective or noun describing the subject still follows the appropriate agreement.
A profession normally needs no indefinite article when simply classifying a person: és metgessa. Add an article when the noun phrase itself calls for one, as in és una metgessa molt coneguda. This is different from copying the English article in every profession statement.
