Level 1

Many -ir verbs add -eix- in stressed present-tense forms.

How It Works

Servir follows serveixo, serveixes, serveix, servim, serviu, serveixen in the Central model taught here. The extra segment appears in the three singular forms and third-person plural, but not in nosaltres or vosaltres.

Llegir and preferir follow the same pattern: llegeixo/llegim and prefereixo/preferim. Other -ir verbs, including dormir, do not add -eix-. Learn the conjugation family with the infinitive; its ending alone does not tell you which pattern applies.

Regional standard forms vary, especially Valencian -isc/-ix- forms such as servisc and servixes. These are regional conjugation patterns, not random interchangeable endings inside one paradigm. Keep the person ending and the stem change together when you practice.
