Aquest/aquests and aquesta/aquestes agree with the noun they identify.

How It Works

Use aquest with a masculine singular noun, aquesta with a feminine singular noun, aquests with a masculine plural and aquestes with a feminine plural. Aquell has the parallel forms aquella, aquells and aquelles.

The demonstrative takes the determiner position: aquest llibre, not el aquest llibre. It can also stand alone when the noun is understood. The choice between near and farther reference depends on context, not on grammatical gender.

Valencian usage commonly distinguishes este, eixe and aquell. These are regional standard forms, not misspellings of aquest. The examples here use the broadly familiar aquest/aquell pattern consistently.
