Agreement of Possessive Forms
Possessive forms agree with the thing possessed, not with the owner’s gender.
How It Works
Use el meu llibre, la meva casa, els meus llibres and les meves cases for one owner's possessions. The change follows llibre/casa and singular/plural, not whether the owner is a man or woman.
Third-person seu/seva/seus/seves can refer to his, her or their. If the owner is unclear, a de phrase can specify it: el llibre de la Marta. Nostre/nostra/nostres and vostre/vostra/vostres similarly agree with the possessed noun. Valencian standard commonly uses meua, teua and seua beside meva, teva and seva elsewhere.
Choose the owner series first, then the form required by the noun. For example, our keys is les nostres claus: nosaltres supplies the owner series and feminine plural claus supplies the agreement.
