Според мен means in my opinion, and според прогнозата means according to the forecast.

How It Works

1. Opinions. Според + a person gives that person's view. After a preposition, pronouns take their full object forms: според мен or според мене, според теб/тебе, според него, според нея, според нас, според вас, според тях.

  • Според мене е прав. (In my opinion, he is right.)
  • Според Иван филмът е скучен. (According to Ivan, the film is boring.)

2. Sources. With a document, a rule or a report it means according to: според прогнозата, според закона, според статистиката. When you pass on someone else's claim without vouching for it, the verb often takes a reported form: Според него не бил виновен. (According to him, he was not guilty.) See reported forms.

3. Depending on, in line with. Според can also link a result to what it depends on: Облечи се според времето. (Dress for the weather.) Цената е различна според сезона. (The price varies with the season.)

4. No commas. Според мен is an inserted expression that the official spelling rules do not separate with commas: Според мен той е прав. Other ways to share an opinion include струва ми се (it seems to me). In legal or official texts, съгласно is used for in accordance with.

Common Mistakes

  • Using the subject pronoun after според.

    Според аз той е прав.
    Според мен той е прав.

    Според is a preposition, so the pronoun must be in its object form: мен or мене, not аз.

  • Separating според мен with a comma.

    Според мен, той е прав.
    Според мен той е прав.
