говоря/говориш
Second Conjugation: И-Verbs
говоря I speak · говориш you speak · говори he/she speaks · говорим we speak · говорите you speak · говорят they speak.
How It Works
The present tense of говоря (to speak):
- аз говоря – I speak
- ти говориш – you speak
- той/тя/то говори – he/she/it speaks
- ние говорим – we speak
- вие говорите – you (all) speak
- те говорят – they speak
Other common verbs of this type: мисля (think), правя (do, make), ходя (go, walk), благодаря (thank), стоя (stand).
After ж, ч and ш, write а instead of я: уча, учиш, учи, учим, учите, учат (study); държа, държат (hold).
Stressed endings: in some verbs the stress falls on the ending, as in стоя and вървя (walk). There the final я of the "I" form and the "they" form sounds close to ъ. See гласната ъ.
Bulgarian has no infinitive, so dictionaries list the "I" form: look up говоря, not "to speak". See речникова форма в първо лице. Compare първо спрежение: чета/четеш and трето спрежение: чакам/чакаш.

Common Mistakes
Using the ending -ат instead of -ят in the "they" form.
Те говорат български.Те говорят български.Second-conjugation verbs end in -ят in the "they" form. Only after ж, ч and ш is it written -ат.
Writing я after ч, ж or ш.
Аз учя всеки ден.Аз уча всеки ден.Standard spelling does not write я after ж, ч or ш in these endings. These verbs end in -а and -ат.
Using е in the "we" form.
Ние говорем бавно.Ние говорим бавно.The endings -ем and -ете belong to the first conjugation. Second-conjugation verbs use -им and -ите.
