zar ne
Zar ne works like English isn't it or right, and it asks for agreement.
How It Works
A tag question checks what you think is true. English changes the tag to fit the sentence (isn't it, don't you), but Bosnian can use the same two words every time: zar ne.
Examples:
- Lijepo je ovdje, zar ne? It is nice here, isn't it?
- Ti radiš u Zenici, zar ne? You work in Zenica, don't you?
You will also hear je l' da or je li tako in conversation, and a rising voice on its own can make a question. Zar at the start of a sentence shows surprise: Zar već ideš? (You are leaving already?). Do not mix the two uses. At the end, zar ne asks for a yes; at the start, zar shows that you are surprised.
