je li
Je Li Questions
Helper + li opens a yes-or-no question.
How It Works
| Person | Question opener |
|---|---|
| ja | jesam li |
| ti | jesi li |
| on, ona | je li |
| mi | jesmo li |
| vi | jeste li |
| oni | jesu li |
With the perfect, the participle comes after the opener: Jesi li jeo burek? The helper and li stay together at the front.
Da li is also very common in Bosnian: Da li je Amir kod kuće? Both are standard. Many learners start with da li at Level 1 and add je li now.
You will also hear Je li tako? (Is that so?) as a short check.
In speech, je li is often shortened to jel, as in Jel tačno? Write the full form at first.
