у + Month
Months with У and the Locative
У + locative says in a month: у студзені (in January), у жніўні (in August).
How It Works
A month is treated like a place in time, so it takes the locative, as in location with у:
- студзень (January) → у студзені
- люты (February) → у лютым
- сакавік (March) → у сакавіку
- красавік (April) → у красавіку
- травень (May) → у траўні
- чэрвень (June) → у чэрвені
- ліпень (July) → у ліпені
- жнівень (August) → у жніўні
- верасень (September) → у верасні
- кастрычнік (October) → у кастрычніку
- лістапад (November) → у лістападзе
- снежань (December) → у снежні
Watch these. Four months lose a vowel: травень → траўні, жнівень → жніўні, верасень → верасні, снежань → снежні. In траўні and жніўні, в also turns into ў. Люты is really an adjective (fierce), so it takes the adjective ending -ым.
Spelling. Month names are written with a small letter. After a vowel, у is written ў: Навучальны год пачынаецца ў верасні.
Days of the week use the accusative instead: у сераду. See days with у. To ask, say У якім месяцы? (In which month?)

Declining люты like a noun.
У люце шмат снегу.У лютым шмат снегу.Люты declines like an adjective, so its locative is лютым.
Using the accusative, as with days of the week.
