एहि / ओहि
This and That Before a Postposition
Before a postposition ई becomes एहि and ऊ becomes ओहि.
How It Works
| Plain | Before a postposition |
|---|---|
| ई (this) | एहि |
| ऊ (that) | ओहि |
- एहि बात पर (about this matter)
- ओहि घर मा (in that house)
- एहि दुकान से (from this shop)
The same change happens when ई and ऊ stand alone before a postposition: ओका, एका, ओसे. Those pronoun forms are in the tables for the personal pronouns.
Used without a postposition, the plain form is right: ई घर नवा अहै. Before कै you will see both: एहि इलाका कै, ई साड़ी कै. Compare हमरे, तुम्हरे अउर ओकरे, which changes in the same position.
The change is also used with time words: ओहि दिन (on that day).
