ৎ
The Letter ৎ
উৎসৱ “festival” has ৎ, which closes the first syllable with a t.
How It Works
The letter ৎ closes a syllable with the sound t. The word উৎসৱ starts with the syllable ut, and then comes সৱ.
| Word | Meaning |
|---|---|
| উৎসৱ | festival |
| সৎ | honest, good |
| বৃহৎ | large, big |
| বিদ্যুৎ | electricity |
All four words come from Sanskrit. You will see the letter ৎ at the end of a word or before another consonant. A vowel never follows it inside the same syllable.
The letter ৎ is not the same as ত. The letter ত can take a vowel sign or the hidden vowel, and ৎ cannot. Write ৎ only in words that have it, such as these four.

How It Connects
Learn This First
