নিজে / নিজৰ
Self and Own
নিজে and নিজৰ point back to the person the sentence is about, as in সি নিজেই খাইছিল “he ate by himself” and তাইৰ নিজৰ ৰুম আছে “she has her own room”.
How It Works
নিজে means “by oneself”. It comes right after the person: মই নিজে “I myself”, তুমি নিজে “you yourself”, সি নিজে “he himself”. Add -ই to stress it, as in আমি নিজেই কৰিছোঁ “we did it ourselves”.
নিজৰ means “own”. It stands before a noun, where মোৰ “my” or তোমাৰ “your” could stand, and it points back to the person the sentence is about.
| Word | Where it stands | Example |
|---|---|---|
| নিজে | after the doer | সি নিজেই খাইছিল। “He ate by himself.” |
| নিজৰ | before a noun | তাইৰ নিজৰ ৰুম আছে। “She has her own room.” |
When an action comes back to the doer, the one who receives it is নিজক, also written নিজকে: আপুনি নিজকে ধুলে “you washed yourself”.
Use নিজৰ when the owner is the same person as the doer. সিহঁত নিজৰ ঘৰত আছে “they are in their own house” makes clear that the house belongs to the people who are in it.
