ভালকৈ / আগতীয়াকৈ

How Something Is Done: -কৈ

Level 4Sounds Like bhālakai / āgatīẏākai

ভালকৈ means “well”, and আগতীয়াকৈ means “in advance”.

How It Works

A describing word goes before a noun, as in ভাল ঘৰ “a good house”. With -কৈ it goes before a verb instead and describes the action.

Describing wordWith -কৈMeans
ভাল “good”ভালকৈwell
আগতীয়া “early”আগতীয়াকৈin advance, early
খৰ “quick”খৰকৈquickly
সঁচা “true”সঁচাকৈtruly, really

Put the new word before the verb: ভালকৈ সাঁতুৰিব পাৰে “can swim well”. The ending goes on a describing word, not on a verb. A few nouns take it too, such as দেৰি “late”, which gives দেৰিকৈ “late”.

ভালদৰে has the same meaning as ভালকৈ: ভাস্কৰে গুৱাহাটী চহৰ বৰ ভালদৰে চিনি পায় “Bhaskar knows Guwahati very well”.

আগতীয়াকৈ goes with things you do ahead of time: আগতীয়াকৈ বুক কৰা “to book in advance”.
