The three Bihus follow the farming year: ব’হাগ বিহু in spring, কাতি বিহু in autumn and মাঘ বিহু after the harvest. The word আহাৰ on its own usually means “food, a meal”. It is the month only when মাহ follows, or when the sentence is about the calendar.
Newspapers, schools and offices give dates with the English months (জানুৱাৰী, অক্টোবৰ). The Assamese months belong to festivals and the farming year.
