Faset ti...? / Faswn i ddim
Conditional Questions and Negatives
To ask "Would you...?", soften the first letter: Faset ti'n hoffi dod? or Fyddech chi'n gallu helpu? For "I wouldn't", soften and add ddim: Faswn i ddim yn mynd.
How It Works
Questions.
- Faset ti'n hoffi dod? — Would you like to come? (North)
- Fyddech chi'n gallu helpu? — Would you be able to help? (South and standard)
- Fasai hi'n hapus yno? — Would she be happy there?
Negatives: soft-mutated verb + subject + ddim + yn.
- Faswn i ddim yn mynd — I wouldn't go
- Fyddwn i ddim yn gwybod — I wouldn't know
- Fyddai hi ddim yn hapus — she wouldn't be happy
Answers. Use the verb in the answering person, without the pronoun:
- I would / wouldn't: Baswn / Na faswn, or Byddwn / Na fyddwn
- he, she, it would / wouldn't: Basai / Na fasai, or Byddai / Na fyddai
- we would / wouldn't: Basen / Na fasen, or Bydden / Na fydden
See echo answers in other tenses.
The future works the same way: Fyddi di yno? (see fyddi di and fydda i ddim). The statement forms are in baswn i and byddwn i.
