basharti
Should, If (Formal)
Basharti + verb in -sa = should, if: Basharti rozi boʻlsangiz, xabar bering (Should you agree, let us know).
How It Works
Building the sentence. Start with basharti, put the verb in the -sa form with its person ending, then add a comma and the main clause:
- Basharti rozi boʻlsangiz, xabar bering. (Should you agree, let us know.)
- Basharti tomonlar kelishuvga erishmasa, nizo sudda hal etiladi. (Should the parties fail to agree, the dispute will be settled in court.)
Agar, mabodo or basharti? Agar is the everyday if and fits any style. Mabodo adds by any chance and suits warnings and kind offers. Basharti sounds official or literary, close to English should in should you need help. In casual speech it would sound stiff.
Keep the condition form. Like agar, basharti does not replace -sa. In literary prose it can also go with other condition forms, such as -gan taqdirda or -ganda ham (even if): basharti koʻnganimda ham (even if I agreed), from Abdulla Qodiriy.
