-gan taqdirda
In the Event That
Verb + -gan taqdirda = in the event that: Poyezd kechikkan taqdirda, chipta puli qaytariladi (If the train is delayed, the ticket price is refunded).
How It Works
How to build it. Put the verb of the condition in the -gan form, add taqdirda, then a comma and the main clause. Here -gan does not mean past; it simply names the event:
- kechikkan taqdirda (in the event of a delay)
- zarur boʻlgan taqdirda (if necessary)
- rozi boʻlmagan taqdirda (in the event of refusal)
Negative. Put -ma- before -gan: Taraflar kelishuvga erishmagan taqdirda, nizo sudda hal etiladi (Should the parties fail to reach agreement, the dispute will be settled in court).
Even in the event. Add ham for a concession, like -sa ham: Yomgʻir yoqqan taqdirda ham, tadbir oʻtkaziladi (Even if it rains, the event will go ahead).
Compared with -sa. -sa is the everyday if. -gan taqdirda sounds official and careful, so it suits contracts, instructions and announcements. Literary prose sometimes puts a possessive on taqdir: izlagan taqdirida ham (even if they searched). Another formal choice is basharti, and aks holda gives what happens otherwise.
