-یوں
Oblique Plurals in Iyon
Compare several items alone with a phrase about those same items.
How It Works
The postposition phrase ان کرسیوں پر refers to several chairs. Its ending does two jobs: plural number and oblique case.
The pattern also occurs in masculine nouns such as آدمی: آدمیوں سے. Direct plural آدمی does not have to end in یاں to form an oblique plural in یوں.
For one chair, کرسی stays کرسی before a postposition. Do not use کرسیوں merely because you see پر; you also need a plural meaning.
