Time + کو
Marking a Particular Time
Use the time phrase to say when something happens.
How It Works
In بدھ کو آئیے, the day tells the listener when to come. It is not the object of coming.
Common words such as آج and کل normally stand alone in this use. Do not translate English on into a mandatory کو after every time expression.
A clock phrase uses بجے: دس بجے. The event’s verb supplies tense; کو by itself does not decide whether the occasion is past or future.
Examples (4)
- بدھ کو دروازہ کھلے گا۔
The door will open on Wednesday.
کو follows the day name.
- ہم رات کو واپس آئے۔
We returned at night.
رات کو names the occasion.
- میں آج گھر پر ہوں۔
I am at home today.
آج does not need کو here.
- وہ دس بجے آئیں گے۔
They will come at ten.
A clock-time phrase uses بجے.
