ہر + Singular Noun

Every or Each

Level 1

Read ہر with the noun after it: the meaning includes each member of the group.

How It Works

ہر کمرہ صاف ہے means every room is clean. The singular noun follows ہر.

میں ہر دن پڑھتی ہوں means I read every day. The time phrase does not change the speaker’s agreement.

To talk about all items together, Urdu can use a plural phrase instead. Do not add a plural noun directly after ہر in the beginner pattern.

ہر does not change for gender. The noun after it keeps its own gender and form.

Examples (4)

  1. ہر کمرہ صاف ہے۔

    Every room is clean.

ہر is followed by singular کمرہ.

  2. میں ہر دن پڑھتی ہوں۔

    I read every day.

The time phrase is singular; the speaker uses a feminine form.

  3. ہر چابی نئی ہے۔

    Each key is new.

ہر stays unchanged while the noun and adjective agree.

  4. وہ ہر ہفتے آتے ہیں۔

    They come every week.

ہفتے is singular oblique in this time phrase. The masculine plural آتے ہیں agrees with the people coming.
