Use کون سا, کون سی or کون سے when the listener needs to identify an item from a set of possibilities.

How It Works

کون سا راستہ چھوٹا ہے؟ asks which route is short. Unlike کون, which asks who, کون سا can select a thing.

Use کون سی چابی with feminine چابی. With plural masculine جوتے, use کون سے جوتے.

A postposition can also require the masculine form سے in this phrase: کون سے کمرے میں means in which room. Here سے belongs to کون سا; میں is the postposition.

Compare asking چائے کیسی ہے؟ about the tea's quality with کون سی چائے when choosing a tea. The questions request different information.
