เหรอ

Questions with เหรอ

Level 2

The five examples contain เหรอ in questions. The spicy-food and hunger examples place another particle after it.

How It Works

Read the displayed questions.
จริงเหรอ asks whether something is true. เขาไปแล้วเหรอ asks about a departure, with already supplied by แล้ว. ไม่ชอบเผ็ดเหรอคะ checks a spicy-food preference in the selected context; หิวเหรอครับ checks hunger. ยังไม่เสร็จเหรอ asks about something not yet completed. None of these written clauses proves a particular observation, percentage of certainty, emotional state or recording of pronunciation.

The spicy-food example has คะ after เหรอ; the hunger example has ครับ after it. These are the displayed spellings and order, not evidence of a particular speaker identity or guaranteed politeness. The linked ไหม entry supplies its own complete questions; do not rule out those questions merely because a coat, food or another object is visible.

The first exercise requests the complete ไหม language question. The second requests the house-confirmation question with ใช่ไหม. Each retained เหรอ alternative can have a meaningful context; choose the wording requested by the exercise rather than inventing a certainty threshold or a universal ban. Pronunciation variants, frequency and register rankings are outside this written-example review.

Examples (5)

  1. จริงเหรอ

    Really? / Is that true?

Word by Word: true | question particle

The complete จริงเหรอ question checks whether something is true. Surprise is a possible contextual reading, not an emotion proved by these written words.

  2. เขาไปแล้วเหรอ

    He has already left?

Word by Word: he | go | already | question particle

He and a completed departure are selected in this functional translation of เขาไปแล้วเหรอ. The clause does not establish whether the speaker saw an absence, heard news or felt surprised.

  3. ไม่ชอบเผ็ดเหรอคะ

[You] do not like spicy [food]?

Word by Word: not | like | spicy | question particle | final particle คะ

[You] and [food] are selected from context, since ไม่ชอบเผ็ด leaves them unstated. The complete question ends in เหรอคะ; it does not prove the listener avoided a dish or identify the speaker.

  4. หิวเหรอครับ

    [You] are hungry?

Word by Word: hungry | question particle | final particle ครับ

[You] is the selected unstated participant in หิวเหรอครับ. The hunger question has เหรอ followed by ครับ; looking at food or a stomach sound is not stated in the native clause.

  5. ยังไม่เสร็จเหรอ

    Not finished yet?

Word by Word: not yet | finish | question particle

Read ยังไม่ together as not yet in ยังไม่เสร็จเหรอ. The participant and unfinished activity remain unstated; an expectation about completion depends on context.

Common Mistakes

  • Replacing the requested ไหม language question with the retained เหรอ question.

    คุณพูดภาษาไทยเหรอ
    คุณพูดภาษาไทยไหม

The task requests คุณพูดภาษาไทยไหม to ask whether you speak Thai. คุณพูดภาษาไทยเหรอ is a meaningful alternative question in another context, but does not reproduce the requested ไหม wording. Neither clause establishes a first meeting or what the speaker already knows.

  • Replacing the requested ใช่ไหม house-confirmation question with the retained เหรอ question.

    นี่คือบ้านของคุณเหรอ
    นี่คือบ้านของคุณใช่ไหม

The task requests นี่คือบ้านของคุณใช่ไหม for This is your house, right? นี่คือบ้านของคุณเหรอ can check the same identification in a different context. The task chooses ใช่ไหม; it does not assign a percentage of certainty or prove surprise or real ownership.

Learn This First

To understand เหรอ, you should first be familiar with how Thai uses particles at the end of sentences to form questions. Specifically, you should understand the basic yes-no question particle 'ไหม' and the word 'หรือ' (or), as 'เหรอ' is a specialized question particle derived from these that adds a tone of surprise or doubt.
