เป็นต้น follows a list of examples. เป็นต้นว่า instead appears before the examples it introduces.

How It Works

End An Example List
In the orchard and equipment sentences, เช่น introduces items and เป็นต้น follows them. The items are examples, without a claim that they exhaust the category.

Begin With เป็นต้นว่า
The language sentence puts เป็นต้นว่า before ภาษาไทย, ภาษาอังกฤษ, and ภาษาจีน. Compare that opening position with เป็นต้น after the fruit list.

Read The Requested Complete List
The flag card asks for a statement naming all three colors. The listed red, white, and blue are a complete set for that task, so the answer omits a closer suggesting further examples.

Use The Requested Format
Another card asks for one list closer, choosing เป็นต้น rather than appending ฯลฯ as well. The final card asks to close the displayed fruit list rather than introduce more items with เป็นต้นว่า. These are precise writing tasks, not bans on every repetition or continuation in other contexts.

Common Mistakes

  • Give The Complete List Of The Flag’s Three Colors.

    This statement specifies exactly three colors and names all three: red, white, and blue. For that requested complete list, omit เป็นต้น, which would suggest further examples.

  • Use A Single List Closer.

    ...เช่น มะม่วง กล้วย เป็นต้น ฯลฯ
    ...เช่น มะม่วง กล้วย เป็นต้น

    For the requested single-closer format, use เป็นต้น after the fruit examples without also adding ฯลฯ. The extra closer repeats the same role. This is a format and clarity comparison, not a ban on every contextual repetition.

  • Close The Displayed List After The Fruit Names.
