zaradi / kljub
Because of and Despite
Zaradi takes the genitive for a cause, while kljub takes the dative for a circumstance that does not prevent the result.
How It Works
Zaradi takes the genitive for a cause, while kljub takes the dative for a circumstance that does not prevent the result. These prepositions must not share one memorized ending.
Compare zaradi dežja with kljub dežju: both refer to rain, but the ending and logic differ. The first gives a cause; the second says that rain did not prevent the event. Read the whole prepositional phrase before translating because of or despite.
