lahko + Present Verb

Ability and Permission

Level 2

Lahko commonly combines with a present-tense finite verb to express ability, permission or possibility.

How It Works

Lahko commonly combines with a present-tense finite verb to express ability, permission or possibility. It is not normally followed by a bare infinitive in this construction.

In Lahko pridem, pridem identifies the speaker; lahko does not change. For inability, the usual contrast is Ne morem priti rather than simply applying ne to lahko. Requests such as Lahko odprete okno? rely on context and intonation for politeness.

  2. Lahko odprete okno?
