Prefixes on Verbs of Going
Vojsť (to go in), vyjsť (to go out or up), prejsť (to go across), obísť (to go around) and zísť (to go down) are ísť with a direction prefix.
How It Works
Prefix + ísť. Each prefix adds a direction. The verb becomes perfective and usually takes its own preposition:
- vojsť (vojdem, vošiel) to go in, do + genitive: vojsť do izby. Imperfective: vchádzať.
- vyjsť (vyjdem, vyšiel) to go out, z + genitive: vyjsť z domu; to go up, na + accusative: vyjsť na kopec. Imperfective: vychádzať.
- prejsť (prejdem, prešiel) to go across or through, often with cez: prejsť cez ulicu. Imperfective: prechádzať.
- obísť (obídem, obišiel) to go around: obísť jazero. Imperfective: obchádzať.
- zísť (zídem, zišiel) to go down, z + genitive: zísť z kopca. Imperfective: schádzať.
- dôjsť (dôjdem, došiel) to get as far as, to reach: dôjsť domov. Imperfective: dochádzať.
Prísť and odísť belong to the same family.
Spelling. After most prefixes ending in a vowel, the í of ísť becomes j: vy + ísť → vyjsť, pre + ísť → prejsť. Some of these prefixes also get a long vowel: dôjsť, zájsť, nájsť. Pri- is the exception: pri + ísť → prísť. After a consonant the í stays: obísť, zísť, odísť, and v- becomes vo-: vojsť. In the past tense, -šiel follows every prefix: vošiel, vyšiel, prešiel, obišiel, došiel.
Aspect. Use the perfective for one completed movement, the -chádzať verb for a process or a habit: Vyšli sme z domu o siedmej. (We left the house at seven.) Každé ráno vychádzam z domu o siedmej. (Every morning I leave the house at seven.)
The same prefixes attach to other verbs of motion: vyniesť (to carry out), preletieť (to fly over), vbehnúť (to run in). For how prefixes change meaning more generally, see verb prefixes and meaning.

Using v with the accusative for going in.

Using budem with a prefixed perfective verb.
