Purpose With ca să
Ca să is the standard Romanian way to say 'in order to' or 'so that'. It connects an action to its intended goal.
How It Works
Ca să introduces a purpose: Vorbesc rar ca să mă înțelegi. (I speak slowly so that you understand me.)
Subjunctive: Use the appropriate form after să: ca să plece, ca să fie gata.
Subjects: The clauses can have the same subject or different subjects. A subject can follow the verb: Vorbesc tare ca să mă audă toată lumea. If it comes before să, split the connector: Vorbesc tare ca toată lumea să mă audă. A different subject alone does not require this split.
Purpose versus reason: Ca să gives the intended goal; pentru că gives a cause or reason.
Simple complements: After vreau, neutral standard usage uses Vreau să mănânc. Purpose ca să is a separate construction.
Clitics and negation: Use subjunctive order: ca să nu-l deranjez.
