خواهم رفت / نخواهم رفت
The Formal Future
خواه + ـم + رفت → خواهم رفت. Compare میخواهم بروم (I want to go).
How It Works
Person belongs on the auxiliary. The forms are خواهم رفت، خواهی رفت، خواهد رفت، خواهیم رفت، خواهید رفت، خواهند رفت. رفت stays unchanged; adding رفتم after خواهم would wrongly give the lexical verb another finite person form.
Negation and compounds. Say نخواهم رفت for I will not go. With کار کردن, say کار خواهم کرد; the nonverbal part stays before the auxiliary and کرد is the bare verbal past stem.
Compare wanting. میخواهم بروم says I want to go and uses a subjunctive complement. خواهم رفت says I will go and omits می on the future auxiliary. Learn these as distinct constructions rather than translate خواهـ in isolation.
Register and time. This future is frequent in announcements and formal prose. Iranian conversation often uses a present form with a future time phrase: فردا میروم. A formal future is a register choice, not proof that a plan is more certain.
Examples (4)
- نتیجه را فردا اعلام خواهیم کرد.
We will announce the result tomorrow.
- من در این جلسه شرکت نخواهم کرد.
I will not take part in this meeting.
Negation is on the future auxiliary.
- میخواهم فردا به خانه بروم.
I want to go home tomorrow.
This is wanting with a subjunctive, not the formal future.
- فردا به خانه میروم.
I am going home tomorrow.
The present form gets a future reading from the time phrase and context.
