Participial Coordination in Formal Prose

Level 6

گزارش را خواند و پاسخ داد. → گزارش را خوانده، پاسخ داد. in this written sequence.

How It Works

Find the finite predicate. In گزارش را خوانده، پاسخ داد, خوانده carries no finite person ending. پاسخ داد supplies the third-person past event. The stated context keeps one participant reading and answering.

Read other main times. گزارش را خوانده، پاسخ می‌دهد can present a current or repeated written sequence. The bare خوانده is unchanged, while می‌دهد changes the finite viewpoint. Do not label every participle as past time in isolation.

Keep compound actions intact. با هم گفت‌وگو کرده، تصمیم گرفتند coordinates the full talking compound with deciding. کردند is not independently inserted after کرده; گرفتند identifies the group in the final finite predicate.

Avoid automatic chronology and subject guesses. The reading/answering example supports a sequence, but every participial construction need not assert a separate completed event long before the main event. More complex passages may use other participial relations. Name a subject or use full finite clauses when the participant relation would be unclear.
