به اندازهٔ
Equal Comparisons
This bag + به اندازهٔ that bag + سنگین است.
How It Works
Name the reference. این کیف به اندازهٔ آن کیف سنگین است compares the first bag with the second in weight. اندازه takes an ezafe link to آن کیف; the reference is a phrase, not an extra subject.
Change the property. این اتاق به اندازهٔ آن اتاق روشن است compares brightness. A comparison of one property does not say that the rooms match in size, price or every other respect.
Read a negative carefully. این کیف به اندازهٔ آن کیف سنگین نیست commonly says it is not as heavy as that bag. Do not translate that ordinary reading as heavier. The predicate’s polarity changes the relation.
Compare a greater degree. این کیف از آن کیف سنگینتر است asserts greater weight. Keep the equal-degree phrase and the comparative suffix pattern separate rather than combining their pieces mechanically.
