bon vèspre, bona nuèch
Good Evening and Good Night
One phrase is a greeting and the other is a wish for the night.
How It Works
These two phrases follow Bonjorn as the day goes on.
| Phrase | When | Gender |
|---|---|---|
| Bon vèspre | you meet someone in the evening | vèspre is masculine, so bon |
| Bona nuèch | you say goodnight | nuèch is feminine, so bona |
The adjective changes with the noun. This is the same rule as in un ostal nòu and una pòrta nòva. Compare the greeting of the day: bonjorn uses bon because jorn is masculine.
The dictionaries give vèspre two meanings, evening and afternoon.
Answer with the same words. Add a name if you like: Bona nuèch, Maria!
