Colors
A color word is an adjective, and it agrees with its noun.
How It Works
A color is an adjective. It follows the noun and takes its gender and number.
| Masculine | Feminine | English |
|---|---|---|
| blanc | blanca | white |
| negre | negra | black |
| roge | roja | red |
| blau | blava | blue |
| verd | verda | green |
| jaune | jauna | yellow |
| gris | grisa | gray |
The feminine of negre and roge is not the same word: una cadièra negra, una taula roja. The plural adds -s: libres blaus, taulas blavas. The ending depends on the noun, not on the person who owns it.
The adjectives in -e (negre, roge, jaune) form the feminine with -a instead of the -e. Blau and blava follow the family of nòu and nòva.
