-न खोज्नु means try or attempt something.

How It Works

खोज्नु means look for. After a -न verb, it means try to do something: ढोका खोल्न खोज्नु (try to open the door).

Pattern	Example
-न खोज्नु	मैले ढोका खोल्न खोजेँ।
-ने कोसिस गर्नु	म नेपाली बोल्ने कोसिस गर्छु।

The past often leads to a second clause that tells how it went: मैले ढोका खोल्न खोजेँ, तर खुलेन (I tried to open the door, but it would not open).

The -न खोज्नु form also works with a past progressive: ऊ बाहिर निस्कन खोज्दै थियो (he was trying to go out).

-ने कोसिस गर्नु is another way to say try, and it stresses the effort.

मैले ढोका खोल्न खोजेँ, तर खुलेन।
I tried to open the door, but it would not open.
खोल्न खोजेँ means I tried.
ऊ बाहिर निस्कन खोज्दै थियो।
He was trying to go out.
खोज्दै थियो shows the try going on.
सरिताले मलाई फोन गर्न खोजिन्, तर नेटवर्क थिएन।
Sarita tried to phone me, but there was no signal.
The doer takes ले in the past.
म नेपाली बोल्न खोज्छु, तर शब्द भुल्छु।
I try to speak Nepali, but I forget words.
खोज्छु shows that I keep trying.
हामी बस समात्न खोज्दै थियौँ।
We were trying to catch the bus.
थियौँ agrees with हामी.

Using the -नु form before खोज्नु.
