आता / आत्ता / लगेच
Now and Right Away
आत्ताच means just now, and लगेच is common in requests.
How It Works
These words usually go before the verb, at the start of the sentence or right after the subject: तो आत्ताच गेला.
| Word | Meaning | Example |
|---|---|---|
| आता | now | आता मी निघतो. |
| आत्ता | right now | आत्ता सात वाजले आहेत. |
| आत्ताच | just now | तो आत्ताच गेला. |
| लगेच | immediately | लगेच ये! |
आता can also mean from this moment on: आता मी रोज सकाळी फिरायला जाणार आहे. (From now on I will go for a walk every morning.) आत्ता is a little more exact than आता, and a speaker uses it when the moment matters.
लगेच is friendly in a request and strong in an order. Add ना to make it softer: लगेच ये ना.
In the past, a verb like करणे matches an object that has no ending, here the thing made: मी लगेच चहा केला. चहा is masculine, so a man and a woman both say केला. In the present the verb shows the speaker: मी लगेच चहा करतो (a man) and मी लगेच चहा करते (a woman).
