थिक
Saying What Something Is: थिक
थिक is a second word for is, used to say what something or someone is.
How It Works
Maithili has two ways to say "is" for things and other people. Everyday talk uses अछि. Writing, school lessons and careful speech often use थिक when something is named or explained.
| Who or what | Form |
|---|---|
| a thing or a plain person | थिक |
| a respected person | थिकाह |
Both words are correct in the same sentence. ई हमर गाम अछि and ई हमर गाम थिक mean the same thing. Learners will hear अछि more often. Choose थिक when you answer "what is this?" in class or in a letter.
थिक is for the third person only. With हम or अहाँ, use छी: हम छात्र छी. Spell it थिक, not थीक.
