अछि
Saying Your Name
Say your name with हमर नाम ... अछि, and ask with अहाँक नाम की अछि?
How It Works
To say your name, use हमर (my) and नाम, then the name, then अछि.
| Maithili | Meaning |
|---|---|
| My name is Sita. |
| What is your name? |
| Her name is Munni. |
अछि is used for every person here, because the verb agrees with नाम, not with the person. That is why you do not need छी or छथि.
Careful speech and writing also use थिक for a name: हमर नाम प्रिया थिक. अछि is correct in the same sentences, and most people say अछि in everyday talk.
To ask about someone you respect, use
Do not use the Hindi मेरा नाम. Maithili possessives never change: हमर नाम, हमर भाइक नाम.
