तैयो
Even So
तैयो joins an obstacle to an action that happened anyway.
How It Works
तैयो means "even so", "still" or "in spite of that". The first part names something that would normally stop the action. The second part, with तैयो, says the action happened anyway.
| First part (the obstacle) | तैयो part (what happened) |
|---|---|
| बरखा भऽ रहल छल | तैयो ओ अएलाह |
| हम थाकल छलहुँ | तैयो काज पूरा कएलहुँ |
| अहाँ मना कएलहुँ | तैयो ओ गेलाह |
- तैयो usually stands at the start of the second part, just before the doer or the verb.
- It does not need मुदा; the two ideas are already linked. You may use both for a stronger contrast.
- It can also stand alone as a short answer: "तैयो?" meaning "Even so?".
The more formal partner pair यद्यपि ... तथापि is taught at Level 5. In daily talk, तैयो does the same job. It is also easy to confuse with तेँ, which means "so, that is why".
