मुदा

Saying but

Level 1Sounds Like mudā

मुदा joins two ideas that pull against each other and means but.

How It Works

मुदा means but. It sits between two ideas that pull against each other.

MaithiliMeaning
हम थाकल छी, मुदा खुश छी।I am tired, but happy.
चाह गरम अछि, मुदा मीठ नहि अछि।The tea is hot, but not sweet.

मुदा can join two sentences or just two describing words. It does not change.

It can also start a sentence when the new idea follows what someone just said: मुदा ई हल्ला किएक अछि? (But why is there all this noise?).

Use तैयो (even so) when you want to say "but still", as in तैयो ओ अएलाह.

Do not use the Hindi लेकिन or पर.
