बरखक छी

Saying Your Age

Level 1Sounds Like barakhaka chī

Say your age with a number, बरखक and a form of to be.

How It Works

बरखक means "of years". It joins the number to a form of to be, so the whole sentence reads like "I am of twenty years."

PersonSentence
हमहम बीस बरखक छी।
a respected personहमर दादी सत्तरि बरखक छथि।
a child or plain personहमर भाइ दस बरखक अछि।

To ask, use उमेर (age) and कतेक (how much): अहाँक उमेर कतेक अछि? The answer can be the short form: बीस बरखक।

Formal writing uses वर्षक, but speakers say बरखक. Write the number as a word in this pattern.
