ばってん
Hakata: Linking Contrasting Ideas
ばってん introduces a contrast in Fukuoka/Hakata speech, much like but or although.
How It Works
値段は高いばってん、長く使える balances a high price against durability. The second clause contrasts with the expectation created by the first.
The form is regional and its frequency varies by speaker. It is not an obligatory replacement for every けど or が in all modern Fukuoka speech.
Do not reinterpret it as a negative verb ending because of its final ん. The whole connective carries the contrast.
