dị: What Something Is Like
Thing + dị + describing word: Mmiri dị oyi, the water is cold.
How It Works
Dị works like “is” before a describing word. It does not change with the subject.
| Pattern | Example | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| thing + dị + word | Nri a dị ụtọ. | This food is tasty. |
| ọ + dị + word | Ọ dị mma. | It is good. |
| thing + dị + word | Mmiri dị oyi. | The water is cold. |
The negative is adịghị with m, as in Adịghị m mma “I am not well”. With another subject it is often Ọ dịghị mma “it is not good”. A person can also use dị to say how they are: Adị m mma “I am well”.
