Ago and Later
दो साल पहले means two years ago, and एक हफ़्ते बाद means a week later or in a week.
How It Works
To say how long ago something happened, put the amount of time first and पहले after it: दो साल पहले (two years ago), पाँच मिनट पहले (five minutes ago).
With बाद, the same amount means later. Looking ahead, it works like English in: दो घंटे बाद आइए (come in two hours). In a story about the past, it works like later: तीन दिन बाद वह लौटा (three days later he came back). You will also hear के बाद here: दो साल के बाद.

Masculine words that end in -आ change to -ए here, as before a postposition: हफ़्ता becomes हफ़्ते, महीना becomes महीने, घंटा becomes घंटे. साल, दिन and मिनट do not change.
Do not mix this up with से. दो साल से means for two years and usually goes with a present form: मैं दो साल से यहाँ रहता हूँ. To put an event before पहले or बाद, add से or के: खाने से पहले, शादी के बाद.

मैं दो साल से भारत आया।मैं दो साल पहले भारत आया।से with an amount of time means for or since and usually goes with a present form: मैं दो साल से भारत में हूँ. For a single past event, use पहले.
