How It Works
| Present | Past | Future |
|---|---|---|
| mi estas | mi estis | mi estos |
| ŝi estas | ŝi estis | ŝi estos |
| ili estas | ili estis | ili estos |
Estis and estos follow the rules you already know. A noun after them takes no -n, and an adjective agrees with the subject: Ili estis amikoj, Ili estos feliĉaj.
When a sentence has no subject, as in a remark about the weather, the verb stands alone and the description ends in -e: Hieraŭ estis varme, Morgaŭ estos malvarme.
Like estas, they can also say that something exists: Estis kongreso en Pollando means that there was a congress in Poland.
