How It Works
| Number | With -op- | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| du | duope | in twos, in pairs |
| tri | triope | in threes |
| kvar | kvarope | in fours |
| kvin | kvinope | in fives |
The adverb in -ope says that the action is done by a group of that size, together. Tiuj du amikoj promenas ĉiam duope means that the two friends always walk together.
Compare -obl-. The ending -op- counts the members of a group, and -obl- multiplies: duope means in twos, and duoble means twice as much. The adverb stays the same whatever the noun is. The noun duopo names the pair itself.
