Numbers From 11 to 99

Level 2

Tens come first, then units: dudek tri.

How It Works

NumberSayNumberSay
11dek unu30tridek
12dek du45kvardek kvin
19dek naŭ67sesdek sep
20dudek88okdek ok
23dudek tri99naŭdek naŭ

The words for the tens are dudek, tridek, kvardek, kvindek, sesdek, sepdek, okdek and naŭdek. Each is a unit plus dek in one word. The unit that follows stays separate: kvardek kvin.

As with smaller numbers, these take no -j or -n when they count things. The noun carries them: Li havas dek unu infanojn.

Numbers can also stand alone: Tridek kaj kvardek kvin faras sepdek kvin.

Numbers can stand alone, without a noun.

Common Mistakes

  • Putting the unit before the ten.

Estas tri kaj dudek homoj ĉi tie.
Estas dudek tri homoj ĉi tie.

Say the ten first and then the unit, with no kaj between them: dudek tri.
